At Media Revolution, we believe that perfect should never be the enemy of good. Every great movement of the past has started small, rooted in humble yet determined beginnings.
Our roots may be deep in the soil of climate and social justice movements in the UK, but the campaign vision, awareness and connections – not to mention the issues – extend far beyond UK shores. We see global issues and global responses as inextricably interconnected – and we see and understand the responsibility and need for countries with a long history of damage – to people and planet – as being accountable and responsible for learning from and taking action in an intersectional and international way.
The malignant media thrives by keeping us all divided, confined to bubbles of isolated thought and echo chambers of familiar ideologies. The challenge—and opportunity—is to break free from these silos. Though we may seem geographically distant or our issues different, by we must recognise ourselves as interconnected, vital parts of a greater whole, with more in common, and more shared struggles than not.
This may mean sometimes carefully holding uncomfortable conversations and forging unusual alliances because the urgency of the mission leaves no time to linger on traditional methods or ideological purity.
We’re inspired by movements that have blossomed from small seeds into powerful forces for change through collective care, mutual aid, and authentic connectedness. The start may be modest but the ambitions are enormous, and the methods are transparent and open, and we invite everyone to share the journey.
Iterating rapidly and evolving continually, we embrace honesty and accountability as core principles, mirroring the integrity we need from the media.
Our ambition is nothing short of catalysing a social tipping point—creating a wave of awareness and action that propels movement media to unprecedented heights. We step up alongside the pioneers already doing essential work, rather than re-inventing the wheel, but bringing renewed energy, practical support, innovative ideas, and extensive organising experience.
Upcoming Activities & Updates:
🤝 We’re organising open call Zoom meetings in June and the 5th Media Revolution conference in July. These events will focus on collaborating, structured discussions, gathering feedback, onboarding and action designing.
🗺️ We’re working with new international connections and leveraging the power of AI to actively map the global media landscape. Covering corporate, state, broadcast, print, and social media platforms this new tool is being designed to help people make informed choices about the platforms they use.
📲 Talking of platforms, Media Revolution is now on social media! We’re using mainstream platforms to help people transition towards decentralised media.
All links are here: https://mediarevolution.org/link-list/ (and yes, the irony isn’t lost on us about being on these platforms, so we highly recommend, joining us first on Mastodon!).
🙋🏼 If you have any capacity or skills to contribute, please check out the volunteer page, and join the movement today by signing up to the email newsletter.
PS _ the campaign doesn’t launch until July, so if you’re reading this, you’re well ahead of the game!
