Change the media, change the future.

The world’s media system; social media, corporate media and state media has been hijacked by a handful of powerful interests – billionaire-owners, political operators and advertisers. Abusing this power, they push narrow agendas at the expense of truth and public interest.

Misinformation, disinformation, sensationalism and scapegoating rule, whether it’s disabled people “undeserving” of support, refugees labelled “invaders,” climate activists called “Eco-terrorists” or entire communities demonised based on race, religion, or lifestyle, the press frequently frames others as threats or burdens rather than human beings with valid experiences.

Vital perspectives are omitted, marginalised voices are othered, or silenced, and public debate is skewed. Digital and societal algorithms amplify biased reporting, with digital platforms (and word on the street) taking cues directly from mainstream news.

Younger audiences and those who hope to ‘tune out’ may well aim to ignore traditional press, but those same media outlets dominate social media feeds, public and political discourse.

“The media’s the most powerful entity on earth.

They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that’s power.

Because they control the minds of the masses.”

VISION

A true media revolution requires more than any single strategy – be it blocking billionaire ownership, reform or creating shiny new replacements. Each effort is vital, yet none are sufficient alone to fix a system this entrenched.

Replacing corrupt media with new community-led platforms, whilst laudable, isn’t enough. If we don’t stop misinformation, reclaim public space for open discourse, reject harmful business models and regulate the system effectively (including ownership models) any gains will be short-lived.

This is why we’re calling for a massive, coordinated approach.

One that unites existing campaigns and affected communities in a single, transformative moment – large enough to revolutionise the media landscape for people and the planet.

By working in collaboration with the widest cross section of society to address the challenge and weave together the solution – co-operative platforms, democratic oversight, radical pluralism with strategic resistance, we can spark a media revolution that genuinely serves the public good.
