Media Sovereignty Campaign

Media Revolution supports many initiatives run by other groups or organisations to tackle the corruption of the media by the billionairist elite.

One of these is the campaign for the Media Sovereignty Act.


The Media Sovereignty Act proposes the radical reclamation of sovereignty over the ownership of Britain’s media from the international and national billionaire elite that have hijacked it for their narrow, illiberal, destructive agendas.

In other words, a radical and positive revolution in media ownership!

British-owned media for the British people!

A sovereign media is essential for a genuinely free people and a fair, thriving democracy in the United Kingdom.

The Media Sovereignty Act establishes the regulations and systems by which the United Kingdom reclaims, protects and enhances its media sovereignty for its nations and its peoples.

The Media Sovereignty Act:

  1. Bans foreign ownership of UK media.1
  2. Bans the concentration of UK media ownership, e.g. by the super-rich and large corporations.
  3. Distributes media ownership across all sections of UK society.2
  4. Protects people from media abuse by requiring all relevant media to be members of their statutory regulator.
  5. Requires all think-tanks covered in the media to report their donations in real time.

Notes

  1. The term ‘media’ covers national press, broadcasters and social media. 
  2. This would be done by imposing a Media Sovereignty Levy on large international social media corporations to help fund independent, local and co-operative-owned media organisations.

    This is a brand new campaign that is in the process of setting up its website and various campaigns in support of the passage of the Act.

    Media Revolution is excited about what this revolution in media ownership could positively mean for all the groups across our society currently oppressed by the illiberal billionairist ownership of our media.

    The Media Sovereignty Campaign is currently very interested in getting members of local constituency parties of all the political parties and trade union branches to propose motions backing the Act, so that it can be debated at their next national and regional conferences.
